Greet the students. "Hello!"/"Good morning!"/"Good afternoon!"

“How are you?” What is the weather like today? What date is it today? Is it spring? Do you like spring?

Middle

Introduction of the topic.

  • Go through the PPP introducing new words and phrases I LIKE/I DON’T LIKE.
  • Pass out vocabulary worksheets to glue into learners’ vocabularies.
  • Go back to vocabulary PPP and work out the words and phrases… ask learners to name other food items they know using the phrase I like/I don’t like.

Play vocab flashcard treasure hunt

Once students are familiar with the vocabulary, play a game. For example, stick the flashcards on the board. Put your class into two teams and call out sentences about the food you like, e.g. ‘I like eggs and cheese.’ One child from each team runs out to the board to touch the correct items.

Vocabulary practice

Students work individually and do the overwriting task. They are asked to overwrite 6 new words.

Differentiation by support: Less able learners work with teachers` assistance.

Controlled practice "Vocabulary matching"

Give each student a piece of paper with different pictures of food. They cut out the pictures and glue them next to the appropriate word in the writing worksheet.

Differentiation by support: Less able learners work with teachers` assistance.

Learners glue the pictures into their vocabularies.

Speaking practice

  • Sing a song “I like Food ”.
  • After singing learners name food items they know using the phrase I like/I don’t like using their pictures.
