This unit recycles and revisits a lot of vocabulary seen in previous units, e.g. words for colours and simple objects and animals. Learners further practice giving short answers in response to direct questions.

  • Teacher revises the days of the week and asks learners “What day is it today? What day was yesterday? What day will be tomorrow?”
  • Teacher asks learners about the weather.
  • Teacher nominates learners to answer “How are you?” question. Each student describes his/her mood saying “I am...”

Happy Birthday

  • Teacher demonstrates flash cards with words on the topic “Birthday” and asks learners to repeat those words (revision)
  • Teacher shows slides with pictures and no words and asks “What’s this?” Learners’ possible answers: “This is a cake. This is a friend. Etc. ”(revision)
  • Teacher splits the class into two groups and provides equal number of cards to each group. Groups in turns show cards to the other group asking them to name the word. Open class feedback: what was easy and what was difficult.
  • Teacher runs an oral quiz – learners look at the slide and choose a, b, c or d. Teacher monitors, identifying difficulties learners come up with.
  • Teacher hands out templates of mini books and explains how to make one – learners should cut pages, staple them in a form of a book, write the words on the lines and color their mini books
  • Teacher asks learners questions related to the procedure of the lesson, so that to check understanding.
  • Teacher walks around the class and monitors learners’ progress assisting if necessary.
